1. What are the prerequisites for a 200HR YTT?

This course is designed for anyone interested in deepening their yogic practice and those who are also interested in taking the first step to becoming a certified yoga instructor. There are no physical or educational prerequisites to register in a 200HR YTT. We do recommend that students have a regular practice prior to attending the course. Not interested in becoming a yoga teacher? No problem! This course is still an incredible way to deepen your knowledge and take some time away from your day-to-day distractions by diving into an immersive yoga experience.

2. What are the prerequisites for a 300HR YTT?

The 300HR YTT course is catered to people who are currently teaching yoga and are seeking to harness their teaching style, advance their sequencing skills, and further develop their facilitation skills. The 300-hour curriculum is designed to move students from the level of “teaching a yoga class” to the level of “guiding an inspirational experience”.

  • Have completed a 200HR YTT, with a good understanding of material and a solid foundation in yogic philosophy, asana, and facilitation

7. Can I stay offsite or in a different retreat center than the one where the YTT takes place?

All students registered in the YTT must stay onsite where the YTT is being held. An important part of the YTT experience is the immersion in yogic community; where all students undergo the transformative experience within the safe container of the retreat setting. Students eat together and study together. Most of the retreat centers are nestled in nature, far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be comfortably housed offsite. Stay, enjoy, relax, and take in all the beauty your YTT experience has to offer.

8. Do you offer discounts for ytts?

Yes! Please write to us for more information on ways to save $ towards your tuition. Please note that discounts and sales cannot be applied retroactively.

9. Are there financing options for ytts available for those with financial limitations?

Yes! We offer payment plans. See our pricing policies or Email us for more information.

10. Do you offer scholarships or work-exchange programs for ytts?

Kula Collective offers scholarship and internship opportunities to make our offerings accessible to those in all socio-economic situations. Because of the intensive immersion nature of the courses, we cannot offer work-trade during the course. We are also not able to offer work-trade or any discounts on R&B, as this money goes directly to the site. Please look at our longer-term internship opportunities if you are interested in work exchange!

Kula also has a grant program to give residents of our host locations the opportunity to participate in our teacher trainings. Upon completion of the training, grantees share their learning's with others in their community to continue spinning the wheel of dharma. Learn more about our Kula Karma program.

11. Why should I choose a Kula Collective ytt, course or retreat?

Within each of us lies a guru, a wise one who knows the truth behind each of our thoughts, words, and actions, an ancient soul that sees through to the essence of all things and knows all there is to be known. Our unique offerings will help reveal the voice of this wise one, giving you the tools and language you need to share the spiritual practice of yoga and empowering you to trust in the channel of truth you carry.

Our Yoga Teacher Trainings and Transformational Retreat offerings are created as holistic experiences; to understand Yoga you must first understand Self... body, mind, and spirit.

12. Are Kula Collective YTT’s Yoga Alliance certified?

Kula Collective is certified at the 200 hour level and 300 hour level.

13. What is the Yoga Alliance?

Yoga Alliance® is the largest internationally recognized registering body for yoga teachers, studios and schools and is the largest nonprofit association representing the yoga community (see website here).  Yoga Alliance provides a set of educational standards for yoga schools that specify hours or study in certain Educational Categories, to ensure schools provide adequate training to yoga teachers, enabling them to teach safely and competently.

14. What type of yoga will be taught in a Kula YTT?

Kula Collective trainings draw from a broad foundational understanding of the vast tradition that is this 5000 year old approach to Self-realization. We thread the four traditional paths throughout our training programs, encouraging a holistic and experiential approach to practice and teaching.

We also weave together diverse understandings of various wisdom cultures and infuse a shamanic connection to the Earth and her elements.

In regards to Asana practice, the ‘Kula Flow’ is a slow vinyasa based sequence with an emphasis on mindfulness, breath, meditation, and alignment. Since vinyasa is not derived from any one lineage, as a collective we have come up with a creative sequence rooted in multiple traditions. The Kula Flow is has roots in Ashtanga, Sivananda, Kundalini, Hatha, and Iyengar. The intention of the flow is to give students an opportunity to access the stillness of the mind, preparing the body for meditation; the foundation of Yoga. As the program progresses, variations on the Kula Flow will be offered for different levels of experience.

The first round of teaching will be the Kula Flow; the second round will be a beginners or intermediate level class where students are required to create and sequence their own class holistically around a theme of their choice, and will be mentored throughout this process

15. How much yoga practice will I be doing during a YTT?

Our morning Art Of Practice sessions will be 2.5 hours each day incorporating meditation, mantra, asana, pranayama, and relaxation. Each afternoon we will dive into Art of Teaching sessions for 3 hours each day where we break down asana, sequencing, teaching, alignment and adjustment techniques in personal, group and peer-teaching practices.

16. Will I be prepared to teach after a YTT?

Yes! We take great pride in preparing students to become teachers.Teaching yoga is an art form. It is a process of intimacy; one that asks for deep movement within both giver and receiver: through love, authenticity, attention and connection. There are many ways in which yoga can be shared, but here at Kula Collective we believe that the fundamental principle that links all of our yoga teaching is Connection; the concept that in order to truly help another being to find oneness, we must ourselves be a channel to that oneness for our students.

Our YTT’s will help you to find this connection within, in order to share your light with others, helping to awaken and inspire all those around us. You will be given a broad foundational of all areas necessary to give you the confidence, skills, and wisdom to share this profound healing practice.

17. Is there any free time during my ytt?

Yes. Kula Collective’s unique 200hr YTT programs are structured around three cycles, which will offer one full day and two half days off during the program. Satsang will be shared every other night in order to allow space in the evenings for reflection and integration.

18. What does Kula mean?

Kula in Sanskrit refers to a community of the heart, a group coming together of its own free will. An intentional community, a family, a tribe, a sangha to support your spiritual evolution.

19. What is unique about Kula Collective?

Kula Collective weaves together diverse holistic experiences and educational offerings from each of our members, drawn together as a whole through using a common thread that respects ancestral traditions, unites our passions, and inspires spiritual growth in ourselves and in others.

20. May I read about previous students’ experiences of the program?

Yes! Please see our Testimonials page.

21. How many students are enrolled in each Teacher Training at one time?

Our programs are quite intimate. All of our locations hold a maximum of 16 students, excluding our Guatemala Kawoq Forest program which holds up to 20 students. We keep a teacher:student ratio of usually 1:5

22. What is the typical age range of the participants?

We have had a wide range of ages in our programs, from 16 to 78!

Kula Collective is unique. We feel so strongly about giving back that we’ve created the Kula Karma project from the start of our endeavors. See our Karma page for more information

24. Are there any travel restrictions in the country where the YTTs are held?
